Abstract

The recognition of the right to exist of the State of Israel has been one of the main issues of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Sometimes seen as a confrontation between religions, the reality is that Israel is recognized, among others, by 19 countries whose populations are mostly Muslim. The present investigation aims to make a historical analysis of the circumstances in which Israel obtai- ned such recognition, in order to combine the obtained information with a statistical analysis of the current political regimes of the Islamic world and its position with respect to the State of Israel. This paper seeks to find if there is an influence of the variable of the diffusion and deepening of democracy on the recognition of the State of Israel. In other words, is the democracy the road to building a fair, lasting and stable peace in the Middle East?
